There are many ways to expand your knowledge, reading, online, seminars to name a few.
In my opinion no matter your Biz, the best way to grow and constantly learn new things is to meet with and learn from like-minded (and sometimes not-so-like-minded) people.
By going out of your way to build those relationships, you’ll find yourself surrounded by new and unusual ideas. When you find yourself in an environment where everyone has something important to offer, amazing things can happen.
Don’t miss out on opportunities to learn, when I meet someone new I like to ask them;
- “If you could do it all again, what would you do differently?”
- “What has been your biggest failure or mistake—and what did you learn from it?”
- “What keeps you up at night?”
- “What are your big, hairy, audacious goals?”
But to make this work for you, you need to take on board what they say and how you can make it work for you, for example when I once asked the question what would you do differently, I had a response of “I would of spent less time procrastinating over the perfect website/business cards etc that it cost me 8 months before I even told 1 person about my business.”
This may sound like a “rookie mistake”, but too many people the feel that plans must be complete and bulletproof before any action can be taken. But surely 80 per cent solution today is better than a 100 per cent solution a few months down the line.
Keep in mind that an unsuccessful action should is a learning experience. Learn from, and even celebrate, mistakes, especially when trying out something new.
Business and life are an ongoing process of learning from experience and experimentation. No process is ever viewed as complete.
Remember Thomas Edison tried thousands of materials for light bulb filaments before he discovered tungsten. When someone asked him how he overcame so many failures, he said that he’d never failed; he’d simply learnt.
